Easter 2015. 9 years ago today, we went to an open admission animal control looking for a new foster. Little did we know the quiet dog lying in his cage would leave a legacy that would help thousands (so far).
If you have never been to a city-run shelter, it is not easy. When you leave, it is tough to shake what you have experienced. Each animal hanging on by someone saying the word “yes” and giving them a chance at a life outside of the walls where death is a real possibility. I had volunteered at Chicago Animal Care and Control for a few years and had recently left because it had gotten to be too much emotionally. But I kept going back, yearning to help the desperate.
