One American player in a top five league who’s gone under the radar of many USMNT fans this season is Lennard Maloney.
Maloney played 29 league games as Heidenheim finished 8th in their first ever Bundesliga season 👏🏾
The 24-year-old is capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and a center-back.
Maloney debuted for the USMNT in October and was also called in for November. However, he wasn’t in the latest March camp as the USMNT won the Nations League once again.
It will be interesting to see if he makes the USMNT squad for Copa América, which drops tomorrow.
When he made his USMNT debut a couple days after his birthday, Maloney couldn’t stop smiling as he told reporters after the game about how happy he was.
In January, he told German magazine Kicker that he’s doing everything possible to impress Gregg Berhalter and hoping to get rewarded for it.
Maloney also said there aren’t many players with his approach and every team needs that.
