Happy Mother's Day to those who have raised or are raising children. To those who have nurtured and cared for someone or something as if they were their own. And also, to those who have lost their mothers or do not have good relationships with them- I'm honoring the time that you were able to have with her, the empty space you may feel with her gone or the empty space in your life that a mother should have filled. It takes something special to be a caretaker, to want another being to grow, be happy, learn and flourish. A mother wears MANY hats - provider, cook, disciplinarian, teacher, friend, chauffeur...the list goes on! My grandmother was one of the greatest superheroines I’ve ever known - strong willed, tough, never afraid to speak her mind, fluent in Chinese and English, scored the winning shot in a high school basketball game, worked at the US Embassy (she met Bruce Lee!), my giggle-partner in crime AND she raised four kids!
