If he holds the puck a split second longer, 2 forwards are committed to the strong side, and he would be able to rim the puck to the weakside, where he had a defenseman waiting. Practicing puck touches is paramount for you to move to elite levels of the game, but it is just as important that you work on your reads while getting touches in practice. The more pressure and variable looks that you can face, the better you will be prepared.
