The Mint Julep's base spirit transitioned from peach brandy to bourbon in the mid-19th century. Now, any bourbon or whiskey is suitable, and non-alcoholic versions replace whiskey with strong, black tea. Save this post and try our batch recipe for the classic Derby drink: 1. Steep 4 black tea bags in 24 oz. of hot water for 4-5 minutes. Let cool to room temp. 2. Mix brewed tea, 6 oz. bourbon, 2 oz. lemon juice, and 4 oz. simple syrup in a pitcher. 3. Add 6 mint leaves and stir. 4. Pour over crushed ice in a glass or Julep cup. 5. Top with more crushed ice, garnish with mint leaves and enjoy. #CheersOHLQ
