“What made you decide it was time to tell the full story of your family’s experiences?”
“I recently found a note I wrote in my journal in 2008. My second novel, FALLING IN LOVE WITH NATASSIA, was published and I was figuring out what to focus on next: new fiction or a family memoir? I had notes for both projects, but about the memoir, I wrote this in my journal: ‘That memoir is the book I’ve been afraid of all my life.’ When I found that note I knew I didn’t have a choice. I had to move toward what frightened me.”
