Last night the Pirates were losers to the Giants in 5-4 with the late comeback effort falling just short. Mitch Keller’s struggles on the mound returned right of out the gate where the Giants gathered 3 runs on the board in the first inning. It hurt even more when Vogt homered in the 5th to make it 5-0, causing a bit of an early exit for the rookie Keller. Mitch’s line: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R/ER, 0 BB, 7 SO. Strikeout/walk totals were solid but the hits just killed him. As for the offense, it just wasn’t there at all for the majority of the game. They had a few opportunities here and there to score including a base loaded no out situation, but a failure to convert resulted in no runs through 7 innings. The bats came alive in the eighth. Lots happening on the base paths, where Melky Cabrera opened the scoring for the Bucs with his 2-run double. Josh Bell matched Melky with a 2-run HR to pull the Bucs to within a run.
