The Pirates were clobbered last night 10-1 as they failed to capture the series win of the Cardinals. For the first time in a while, Steven Brault was well below average in his performance level as the Cardinals were able to pick him apart slowly but surely. Brault uneffectively allowed 4 runs in the third inning, the blow being Marvell Ozuna’s three run dinger that barely cleared the wall in right center. Starling Marte answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame but it meant nothing as Brault surrendered two more in the 6th before departing. Steven’s line: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO. The pen was a liablity in itself with both Clay Holmes and Parker Markel giving up a pair each. Geoff Hartlieb squeezed in a scoreless inning but other than that, it just seemed like nothing was working for the Bucs last night.
