After spending the day in Hebron with Palestinian activist issaamro, our friend and leader, omar_harami, invited, encouraged, and prodded us to sing protest chants as we walked down the streets of Hebron where Palestinian residents are not allowed to go.
Having been here before I was again struck by the blatant culture of control and dehumanization that has been inflicted upon this part of the city (see previous video of Issa). For those who doubt the realities of occupation and apartheid, you need only navigate the check point and walk a few blocks to realize that there is no denying the realities of the Palestinian people. Living under occupation and in an apartheid state aims to wear people down, force them to leave, and silence dissent.
With these realities as the backdrop, in this moment we blatantly flaunted the privilege of our access and citizenship.
