Certifications aren't everything. While we love to see sustainable travel certifications on companies in the industry that we know are doing their best to make a difference, the lack of accreditation by some of the top sustainable programs doesn't mean a company doesn't live up to those standards. Especially for small businesses, getting certified is very difficult and, honestly, extremely expensive. For locally or family-owned businesses, it's just not in the cards. But that doesn't mean they aren't doing everything they can to create a sustainable experience. Do your research, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
