Anna Mumford grew up running sled dogs with her dad. Wanting to continue being a part of the sled dog community, Anna decided to study Bioveterinary Science at utahstate.ag with plans to go to vet school. Even though she’s a busy college student, she still finds time for the sport she loves and goes home to Idaho when she can to help her dad and grandpa train their sled dogs (the three family members call themselves the Mushing Mumfords). Most of the dog races they compete in range from 100 to 350 miles. However, Anna’s dad, Bryce Mumford, just returned from the Iditarod in Alaska, and that race is almost a thousand miles long. “The Iditarod is like the Olympics of dog racing,” Anna explained. Her father was unable to finish, but made it 714 miles, the longest their team of dogs has ever gone.
