We're calling it – it's time to give up cruising. The pandemic has shined a (not so great) light on the cruise industry, and it's got us not only rethinking the safety of cruising from a health perspective, but from a sustainability perspective as well. Cruise ships destroy about a football field's length of coral reef every time they drop anchor, leaving catastrophic devastation to ocean life every time they come into port (not to mention they use 3x as much CO2 as plane travel). And because these ports are typically in high-traffic, high-volume tourist areas with short stopovers, you're unlikely to be able to find real, authentic family-owned shops and restaurants to give your money to. But hey, if you want to be on the sea, by all means breathe in that salty air. But consider visiting a small shore town instead – we promise you'll love it.
