Demand for Nicaraguan beef threatens Indigenous communities and fuels widespread deforestation. In 2023 alone, Nicaragua witnessed the highest rate of primary forest depletion in the Americas, losing an area 4x the size of Miami. This problem extends to the U.S., where importers support this unethical supply chain, distributing the beef to American households. Disturbingly, there's no U.S. legislation stopping companies from sourcing this beef or mandating they disclose its origin to consumers.
