5️⃣0️⃣ year rediscovery anniversary of the once-lost Yellow-tailed Woolly Monkey! Today marks the 50th anniversary since this Critically Endangered monkey was rediscovered in 1974, during an expedition led by Re:wild's Chief Conservation Officer, Russ Mittermeier - alongside researchers Hernando de Macedo-Ruiz and Anthony Luscombe. This #lostspecies had disappeared and was believed to be Extinct for several decades. Yellow-tailed Woolly Monkeys are only found in the montane forests of Peru and continue to face threats from habitat destruction. As a result, they have lost 80% of their habitat. We join the Peruvian conservation organization yunkawasi in calling for immediate conservation actions to prevent their extinction. 📸: 1. Wilhelm Osterman, 2/3. Gerson Ferrer #SearchforLostSpecies
