Norway’s Fjøsnissen, or “Barn Santa,” is said to be a guardian spirit for families at Christmas time. At Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays, we heard from Sigrid, a young girl who is unable to see Fjøsnissen, though her sister claims to have seen him and strongly believes in his existence. As she shared stories of her family’s Christmases past, Fjøsnissen was silly on stage and we as the audience tried to help Sigrid notice him, but she couldn’t. She often scolded us for believing in such a far-fetched tale. Only at the end of the show did she finally see Fjøsnissen, and he assured her that he had been there throughout her life, even when she couldn't see.

The issue was not his lack of presence. The issue was her unbelief.
