More than 1,200 U.S. flights were delayed Wednesday morning after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) witnessed an outage of the system that sends messages to pilots. On its website, the FAA said it is still working to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions system following an outage. “This technology issue is causing significant operational delays across the National Airspace System,” said Airlines for America, an industry group representing major U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and others, writes CNBC. The FAA has ordered all airlines to pause all domestic departures until 9 a.m., but airports — including Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas — expect delays throughout the day.
