Richly forested Papua in Indonesia is on the frontline of both biodiversity and climate crises due to a relentless push by agribusiness companies, backed by international finance, that want to clear its forests to make way for palm oil, paper pulp, and other plantations. Since early 2000, when the Indonesian government started releasing permits for logging and palm oil companies, Indigenous Peoples across the island have been engaged in a struggle with outsiders and the government who underestimate the strength of Indigenous connection to their land. For Biodiversity Day, the Indigenous People of Knasaimos-Tehit in Papua showed and shared a little insight into what land and forest means for them. #NatureNow #DefundNatureDestruction #SavePapuanForests greenpeaceid
