Multnomah Falls – Oregon’s tallest waterfall and one of the most popular natural attractions in the state – will soon be crawling with visitors, who will once again need a permit to get a close-up look.
Timed-entry permits are back for the 2024 season, required daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., between May 24 and Sept. 2, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Permits are technically free but cost $2 to purchase online at
recreation.gov, where they’re made available up to 14 days in advance. Additional permits are released two days in advance. A limited number of same-day permits will also be made available, free of charge, at the Gateway to the Gorge Visitor Center in Troutdale and the Cascade Locks Historical Museum.
