It’s banding day for the Cathedral peregrine falcons! 🐥🐥 The Pennsylvania Game Commission visited the Cathedral of Learning today to do a health check and banding organized by national_aviary. The process involves bringing the juvenile falcons in from their nest box to measure, weigh and tag them—under the watchful eye of mom and dad falcon. Banding is important to conservation; the small metal bracelets will enable conservationists and scientists to track and account for the movements of the two juvenile falcons throughout their lives. Carla, the mama falcon of the nest, was born and banded similarly as a baby in Fort Wayne, #Indiana. In the next few weeks, the chicks will start to test their surroundings and build up their wings so they can eventually fly off and find new homes in the wild.
