Did you know that New York City is home to the largest Chinese American population in the United States? Luckily, The Mott Girls, two Chinese American females, are working hard to keep that legacy alive. This women-led tour group based in the heart of Chinatown showcases 150 years of Chinese American culture through walking and food tours around the historic neighborhood.
For founders cloclonutz and annah5030, the tours are a way to share all of the Chinese American history they learned as adults (which they notably didn’t get the chance to learn as young students in US public schools). Their work became exceedingly crucial as anti-Asian sentiment dramatically rose during and after the pandemic, leaving Chinatown’s small businesses with devastating effects.
