The Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program (VISP) is a grassroots initiative that gives young indigenous community members an opportunity to learn how to surf, gain important water safety skills and connect with their local community. The success of programs like the VISP relies heavily on the dedication of volunteers who generously give their time each week, ready to offer help wherever it’s needed. This year’s National Volunteer Week theme is ‘Something for Everyone,’ and the Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program is a shining example of how the diverse backgrounds and expertise of volunteers positively impact the experience for the program’s participants. Whether it’s cooking the BBQ, helping set up the events, picking up the participants or getting in the surf to supervise the kids there is always a way to help your local sporting club.
