The Tempe Needlewielders were recognized with the World of Difference Award at the Mayor’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation event earlier this spring. Since 1979, the group has gathered to share their passion and talent for crocheting, knitting and sewing, donating their creations to local churches and the surrounding Tempe community. Through the years the Needlewielders have donated hundreds of hats, neck warmers, scarfs, gloves, socks and slippers to our troops serving overseas. They collectively volunteered over 47,000 hours in 2023 with an estimated $1.5 million economic impact.
