Ever felt altitude sickness?? 🤢This was my biggest fear of hiking Mount Whitney! • Living at sea level in San Diego, my lungs aren’t equipped to handle 14,000+ elevation gains. I researched & prepared to ward for that sickness (nausea, headaches, dizziness 😩). • NOTE: Evan’s hiked Whitney 4x and has thrown up in the morning 3x 🤮—I was trying to avoid that!! 🙇🏻‍♀️ • Here’s how I reduced the sick feeling & concurred Mt Whitney, feelin ‘good’ 🥹👍 🎉. • BEFORE YOU HIKE: • 📌Acclimate- stay at least 1 night prior to your hike at a higher elevation. For our training hikes, we searched for campsites at 5,000+ elevation. At Mount Whitney, there’s a great campsite called ‘Whitney Portal’ that you can pre-book for your first night. The Portal’s at 8,500ft. Book on Recreation.gov • 📌 Eat potassium rich foods — bananas, avocados, spinach, kale, yogurt—as we’re vegetarians this part was easy👌.
