Portland’s largest mausoleum will once again open over Memorial Day weekend, the only time of year the public is invited to wander the century-old mausoleum’s eight stories and seven miles of corridors. New this year, the exclusive Rae Room, which has in years past only opened on Memorial Day, will be open all three days so more visitors can admire the eternal resting place for lumber baron George Rae and his second wife, Elizabeth Rae. So many people have sought to visit to the marble tomb, mausoleum staff are extending its hours. Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Mausoleum in Sellwood only opens to the public over Memorial Day weekend.
