An estimated half a million women and girls worldwide are currently living with obstetric fistula.
This tragic childbirth injury is caused by prolonged, obstructed labour in the absence of timely and adequate medical care. It leaves women and girls with a hole between the birth canal and bladder and/or rectum, which can result in chronic medical problems, depression, social isolation and deepening poverty.
On Thursday's International Day to
#EndFistula & every day, the
#UnitedNations Population Fund (UNFPA) works to tackle fistula and help women overcome this devastating condition.
