Culture crash course at Castaways. A few days ago I posted about this iconic ship-shaped structure at North Avenue Beach. I didn’t know that it was designed by renowned local firm wheelerkearnsarchitects in 1999 and was inspired by the original ship structure there designed by architect Emanuel V. Buchsbaum in the 1930’s when the beach was developed as part of FDR’s New Deal and the WPA. As a city dweller I am sure I’m not alone in feeling starved for culture (in person) this last year. That’s why we live in the city and choose to raise our family here.
