Ten years ago I was an injured freshman at UO who volunteered to help at the 2014 preclassic. The job I was assigned? Hold the finish line tape. I remember being thrilled to witness phenomenal race after phenomenal race up close, I remember the sound of a roaring Hayward field, and I remember dreaming and hoping that one day I could compete at this historic meet myself.
I’ve come a long way since 2014 and if I could tell one thing to that 19 year old kid holding the finish line tape it would be this: just be yourself and keep dreaming big.
I absolutely cannot wait to fulfill a decade long dream tomorrow afternoon. And the best part is, whether I break the tape or not, as soon as the gun goes off, I’ve already achieved it.
💎 I run at 1:57pm tomorrow - you can tune in LIVE on nbcolympics 📺
