Most plastics are non decomposable and the ones that are can take more than 500 years to decay in the ocean or a landfill. Marine life such as fish, sea turtles and marine mammals like dolphins, seals and polar bears are at ultimate risk for habitat destruction and extinction. Ocean pollution not only directly kills these precious animals by suffocation, disease and starvation but can also affect mating rituals which can wipe out an entire species.
