Our Traffic Unit has noticed a trend of altered license plates around the city. Sure, some may make your ride look extra cool 😎 but California Law says, it’s not so cool.
So where are people getting these altered plates you might ask?!
🔹Online sources that aren’t the DMV and are considered license plate wraps.
🔹The only legal plates issued by the DMV are the white/blue reflectorized plate, the legacy plate, and the digital plate.
🔹Legacy plates and digital plates are specialized plates issued by the DMV and therefore cost extra to have on your vehicle.
🔹Standard issued legacy plates only have 6 alphanumerics instead of the standard 7.
🔶The only exception to a standard issued legacy plate is a personalized legacy plate. The legacy plates issued by the DMV have “California” written in block lettering, as seen.
🔶California in cursive as well as having 7 alphanumerics, makes it illegal.
