Let's talk electric motorcycles; Surrons to be exact. #TrafficTuesday ➡️ Surrons, like the one pictured above, have become extremely popular with youth around the city. But there are some misconceptions about the laws regarding them. ➡️ While they may be called electric bicycles, Surrons ARE electric motorcycles and meet the definition in the Vehicle Code (CVC 4000). ➡️ Surrons are motorcycles made for off-road use (per the manufacturer owner's manual) and must be registered at the DMV to be used on OHV designated areas only. So, what does this mean? ➡️ Surrons must be registered with the DMV to be ridden on the street (CVC 4000a), the rider must have a M1 license or permit (CVC 12500a), the rider must wear a DOT approved helmet (CVC 27803b) and must carry liability insurance (CVC 16028a).
