2nd race of the year and a 2nd place finish. Obviously not a win, but felt like a win for me. After my first race this year, my confidence took a big hit, and I struggled to understand why the fitness I saw in practice didn’t translate to competition. I just reminded myself that racing is a specific skill that takes time to hone, and, especially after not racing much the last few years, it will take more than one race to get it right (lol, obviously Allie 🙄)
In this race, my goal was to stay as relaxed as possible the first half of the race and then push the last half and try to hunt people down and be competitive. I went through the 1 mile in 5th, the 2 mile in 3rd, and the finish in 2nd, so I felt good about my progression through the race. I still think there’s a lot of fitness and racing prowess to be built, but this was a promising step forward.
