S/O to my boy @ndcpoetry for this breakdown. 🗣️🎙️ When you think about it, it shouldn’t be surprising that #MemorialDay is a creation of Black Americans, because paying homage to ancestors is an African tradition and concept. It’s been co-opted to be “July 4th Jr.” and is now viewed to be about soldiers who lost their lives in wars in the 20th century, but we must never ever forget the true meaning and never ever forget those who lost their life during AND before the Civil War, for OUR freedom, because we have soldiers whose uniform was their melanin. ✊🏾💯 When did you learn this? 🤔 #blackhistory #civilwar #ushistory #racism #soldier #vietnamwar #slavery
