#OnThisDay in 1892, Ida B. Wells, a pioneering Black journalist, faced the wrath of racial violence in Memphis, Tennessee. While away in Philadelphia, her newspaper office was attacked by a white mob in response to her fearless reports on lynching. The lynching of three Black men that March spurred her to investigate the narrative justifying such atrocities. She debunked the myth that lynching was a response to Black men assaulting white women, revealing instead that victims were often targeted for challenging white economic dominance or minor offenses. Wells's legacy as a vocal opponent of lynching and advocate for civil rights endures. Her work remains a beacon of truth and a testament to the power of journalism in the pursuit of justice. #IdaBWells #RacialJustice #JournalismMatters Photo Credit: Chiak and Zima Archives
