Bill Walton was on the call for many of the games I’ve photographed over the past couple of years. I tend to leave the “celebrities” alone. I’m there to do a job just like they are. The thing I noticed about Bill was he took the time to talk with everyone and was a profoundly good listener. He enjoyed hearing what everyone had to say and in doing so made them feel like they were special. I had one special moment of my own with Bill during halftime of an Oregon vs Oregon State game at Gill Coliseum. He saw my camera and posed for a photo without me saying a word. It was just him and I in a dark hallway in the back of the Arena. He engaged in a conversation with me and I’ll never forget what he asked me. Are you doing what you love? I said yes sir with a big smile and he told me you’re one of the lucky ones with his own trademark smile. Keep it up he said and shook my hand as we parted ways. It was a brief encounter but one I will not forget. RIP Bill
