His mom, Sgt. Eva Roby, who was deployed in Kosovo with the National Guard, surprised him after he received his diploma. Sgt. Roby told Fox 5 that she has had to miss some important moments over the years, but she refused to miss her son, whom she raised as a single mom, graduate from college. Malik is the first man to graduate from college in his family, and his degree is in Special Education. Malik says he’s not done; he’s going for his Master’s and PhD next.
