In 2021, TU’s College of Law established the B.C. Franklin Legal Clinic to provide free legal services to residents in the Greenwood and north Tulsa communities. The clinic was named in honor of attorney Buck Colbert (B.C.) Franklin, a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
According to his grandson John W. Franklin, a member of TU’s Board of Trustees, B.C. Franklin was the seventh of 10 children. He attended Roger Williams University and graduated from Atlanta Baptist College (now known as Morehouse College) and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1907.
B.C. Franklin dedicated his time and expertise to aiding other survivors after the Tulsa Race Massacre decimated the prosperous Greenwood business community known as Black Wall Street. Franklin exemplified legal brilliance, tenacity, and resilience. TU Law’s clinical education programs celebrate his commitment to community service.
