Director Ryan White (GOOD NIGHT OPPY, THE KEEPERS, ASSASSINS) joins us next Wednesday on next week’s episode of the Team Deakins Podcast. Born and raised in Dunwoody, Georgia, Ryan later enrolled in Duke University where he found his calling to direct documentaries after watching Agnès Varda’s THE GLEANERS AND I as extra credit for a class. Ryan shares why he prefers the intimacy of working with skeleton crews and how he spends years on a given subject to satisfy his unending curiosity. We discuss why Ryan sees his interviews more as conversations and how his longtime editor Helen Kearns (episode 2-40 of the podcast) elevates their work, and we reaffirm the value of listening to your mother’s ideas.
Speaking with Ryan was a pleasure, so please listen in next week!
