In tomorrow's episode, Team Deakins is joined by director and cinematographer Alexander Nanau. We dive into the world of documentaries in this episode and discuss Alex's work The World According to Ion B, Toto and His Sisters, and Collective! Alex tells us how he leaves his subjects when his films end, how he learned to not expect any developments from a story he has set out to tell, and how it's better to be a role model than to intervene in his subject's lives. Alex never uses a tripod and his goal when making a movie is to make an audience forget they are watching a movie! We also talk about how to balance your need to shoot interesting footage that might make your subjects look bad with the need to build trust with subjects. It's an interesting episode with a talented filmmaker! Don't miss it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
