We talk about what the biggest challenges were for Niall and Elaine on the movie 1917, specifically their work with the trenches and No Man’s land. We talk about scrambling to build out the set when the shooting direction changes, working with VFX and how everything still has to be designed despite the advancements in technology, how their department likes to be efficient and reuse sets whenever they can and how film crews are very conscious of their footprint when working on location. Elaine tells us about painting landscapes and her background in painting and Roger shares with us the many jobs Roger would have done had he not pursued cinematography.
