This Wednesday, Team Deakins is joined by Art Directors, Niall Moroney and Elaine Kusmishko!! In this episode, Niall and Elaine break down the role of an art director and explain to us the responsibilities of a supervising art director. We talk about Niall and Elaine's beginnings, the funny story of how they met, and how it seems like nobody in the art department has come up in a conventional way. We learn that Elaine chose to specialize in working big greens elements because decorating with natural and organic materials poses more challenges and she likes challenges! Niall tells us that one of the hardest parts for a supervisor is pulling together the team at the beginning of the film, but it can also be the most rewarding. We go into detail about building the trenches in 1917 the challenge of building the set for the night scene at Écouste.
