A young man who defected from North Korea has now set his sights on becoming a K-pop idol. ⁠ ⁠ Kim Hak-sung, who defected from North Korea in 2017 when he was 13 years old, joined the reality TV show “Make Mate 1” for a chance to earn a spot in a new K-pop group.⁠ ⁠ Kim, now aged 19 or 20, has been open about the difficulties he has faced adjusting to life in South Korea.
