Until I grew up, I didn’t realize how much my family sacrificed for me and my siblings in order for us to have a better life. My grandpa had an interesting life. He escaped North Korea and safely made it to the South with his brother. Unfortunately, the rest of his family couldn’t make it out from the North, but him and his brother found survival. After meeting my grandma, he moved to the US and made this foreign land his ‘home’. Not only did he live in a country that he did not know the language to, but he had the courage to go back to Korea all alone to start something he always had ‘what-ifs’ about. Although he wanted to come back home almost instantly, he was finally able to check this off his bucket list. He did it.
