From travel restrictions and maneuvering through a career/life change, it took a lot & a LONG time to finally have the chance to be back with my grandpa again. Back when international travels were on hold, I sent my grandpa a care package and a letter, and promised him that I’d come back to Korea to see him the moment I was able to 🇰🇷
Fast forward 4 years and I couldn’t believe it the moment I saw him after all this time. When I was 6, my grandparents left Korea, sacrificed comfort, and moved to America to help raise me and my siblings. I didn’t really understand what was going on since I was so young, and I never really asked questions since my Korean isn’t the best. But over these last few weeks, and with the help of my sisters amazing Korean translation (kimruuuuuth), I’ve learned more about my family than I could’ve ever known. And although communicating is still a bit difficult, I told myself that the least I could do is to be present and give back through quality time.
