Bricks, steel, cast iron and coquina make for an extremely strong lighthouse! The St. Augustine Lighthouse, the city’s second lighthouse, was built from 1871-1874. Architect Paul J. Pelz also designed the Bodie Island Light (1872) and Currituck Beach Light (1875), both in North Carolina, but he is famous as architect of The Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Museum hours are 9 AM-6 PM seven days a week.
