THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE! The iron staircase arrived at the St. Augustine Lighthouse in 1873 from Philadelphia in parts and was assembled on site during construction of this new lighthouse, which was first lit on October 15, 1874. To make sure the construction workers put the staircase together properly, each part had a number or letter imprinted on it. Today, the numbers and letters are still there, but difficult to find. They are small and the ones under the black paint of the stairs are obviously hard to see in the lower light of the tower. However, the careful observer may still be able to pick them out on the climb to the top! The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 👉👉Tickets & Details: staugustinelighthouse.org More history on the blog: staugustinelighthouse.org/2017/02/22/five-things-you-might-not-notice-at-the-lighthouse 📸: dk.photo2 #staugustinelighthouse #history #lighthouse #spiralstaircase #stafla #staugustine...
