ALL THREE Brown Bess muskets recovered from the Storm Shipwreck site are NOW ON DISPLAY in the conservation lab! They each have different patterns and various states of readiness, with the earliest pattern being a 1756 long, loaded with birdshot. The 1769 short was also loaded, but with buck and ball. Buck and ball loads are considered bad form, but both sides of the American Revolution used them. The final musket is a 1777 short pattern and was not loaded. We partnered with the flheritage (DHR), which conserved the muskets, removing the outer layer of corrosion to reveal them, complete with intact stock, lock, and brass furniture.
