Before joining the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, our Diving Safety Officer, Airielle Cathers, worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary of the Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease response. Today, she brings her love of coral reefs to our research team, promoting a holistic approach to submerged archaeological research with the integration of marine biology to our student and staff training. If you want to help your local reefs, become a Reef Ambassador with Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection and advocate for reefs in your community. To help stop the spread of Stony coral tissue loss disease, all SCUBA divers can also decontaminate their gear between dive sites.
