Today, U.S. Congressmen John Rutherford and Michael Waltz announced a federal bill creating the Nation's Oldest Port National Heritage Area at the non-profit St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. The federal bill proposing the National Heritage Area (NHA) is co-sponsored by Congressman Al Lawson. A National Heritage Area is a region designated by the United States Congress where the natural, cultural, and historical resources combine to form a significant shared landscape. North Florida possesses a history that figures prominently in the story of the United States. "The story of this region cannot be told without diverse voices. Our history, traditions, seascape, military heritage, arts, and foods are important to share with our many visitors and new residents,” said Capt.
