#RodeoHistory: Its not a Rodeo without the Bed Races!
The very first Bed Race event was in 1977. It was a publicity stunt intended to bring more excitement into the town in preparation for Rodeo weekend. The first race had two teams, the Cloverdale Fire Department and the local RCMP.
The event was such a success that it has become an annual tradition for Rodeo Week and now consists of dozens of teams across six categories. They compete in elimination rounds for the coveted Bed Pan (men's division), Chamber Pot (women's division), and Stone Pig (mixed division) trophies.
The Bed Races aren't complete without the annual kids Bike Parade and a skateboard demonstration by the World Freestyle Round-Up Skateboard Championship competitors to start the show.
