#RodeoHistory: In 1948, just three years after the first event, the Cloverdale Rodeo joined the professional circuit. In anticipation of the crowds that year, the association rebuilt the existing corrals, built new chutes and fences, extended the racetrack to a half mile, and added grandstands for an additional 3,000 seats. Over May long weekend of 1948 the Fraser River flooded, forcing the association to postpone the Rodeo until Labour Day Weekend. Over 7,000 spectators attended, and over 1,000 were turned away from sold out performances. Photo Credit: Cloverdale Labour Day Rodeo 1951. Neville Curtis Collection.
